Why can’t they say it in english?
The public question reads “Resolved that there should be raised for GENERAL FUNDS $40,542,446 for the ensuing school year”…YES or NO
What they should be saying is “Can we have your permission to increase the budget above the cap that the state has set. This will result in a higher tax bill.”…Yes or No
Get out and vote on Wednesday especially if you are against it, because the way it is worded combined with the push that the Teachers Union will give to urge their members to vote, this thing might just pass.
If you want to pay for this in your tax bill next year because you believe Voorhees needs these additional funds then by all means go and vote. But if your to busy then feel free to skip this election. I won’t mind at all.

I’m sure most of the Alluvium neighbors look forward to the change in seasons. The kids go back to school, the air conditioners stop running up our electric bill (I topped out at over $500 a month this Summer), and the holiday seasons will soon be upon us.
If your a skier or snowboarder you’re probably dreaming about the first snow as I write this. Not me. I love the Summer. For me Summer starts around May 1st and is just ending at the beginning of October. Any given weekend you will find me down at the Jersey Shore.
So it is time for me to hibernate, no more road trips down the White Horse Pike. All my Summer gear gets packed away, and I try to prepare myself for the on coming seasons.
Yes I will enjoy the holidays, I will get chores done that I have put off since last May and I will eat way too much food. But mostly I will complain about the cold, dread shoveling the white stuff off the driveway and bundle up in more layers of cloths than a 7 layer cake, which reminds me of food again.
So the next time you see me will be after the tax man cometh and please refrain from telling me how much weight I have gained.

It’s really cold outside. No yard work for me this weekend.
We went to the Ritz Showcase movie theater last night. Guess what. It has been sold again. It is no longer owned by National Amusements. It is now called “Rave Motion Pictures Ritz Center”. Everytime this movie house changes owners it begins to look more and more like your standard multiplex. I use to think we were special here in Voorhees when this theater first opened. The Ritz was really special. But not anymore. There are 2 big things I noticed last night besides the new names and uniforms. The first is the big bucket popcorn they now offer. I consider this a plus. The second is the commercials they now play before the previews. If I want to see TV style commercials I can stay home.
By the way, we saw the new Ben Stiller film “Greenberg”. I’m a big BS fan and I knew going in that this was not a comedy. What I didn’t know was how lame this film was. Don’t waste your time.

It’s time to start getting ready for the annual Alluvium Yard Sale coming up on April 24th. I will be posting pictures on the website so if you have anything special for sale send me a picture and your address (or your Street name if you want to remain anonymous) and I will post it on the site. Send pictures to: steve@myalluvium.com
I went to a seminar today sponsored by the Rutgers Family Business Association and to my surprise one of our neighbors, Judy Raines was the speaker. Judy is the president of Webmarcom, a company specializing in all aspects of web marketing. She is a dynamite speaker and a lot of fun. I learned a lot in the 2 hours we were together. If you want to learn more about how to use social media in your business check out Judy at www.webmarcom.net

I’m loving this weather. I finally had a chance to try a restaurant I’ve been wanting to go to for years. Graziano’s on the White Horse Pike in Chiselhurst. You have probably drove by it many times and would never think of stopping in but let me tell you, the next time you have a craving for some great Italian food you have got to try this place. This is an old fashioned family owned place with a traditional as well as some unique dishes that you will not find anywhere else. Bottle of reds, a bottle of whites, this could have been the Italian Restaurant Billy Joel was singing about.

We are having great weather this Memorial Day weekend. Going down to the shore (actually heading East is more accurate) seams to be the thing to do.
I found an above average website for New Jersey covering the best of this and the best of that. It also has just about everything to do in NJ that you can think of plus a few things you never knew.
Here is the link. http://www.new-jersey-leisure-guide.com/
Don’t forget the sunscreen.

Some people go off to war, some people run for office and some people volunteer their time. It is our civic duty to go out and vote. It is the minimum you can do for your country. We have an election this Tuesday and regardless of your political affiliation or non affiliation, please get out and vote.
Now onto the PUBLIC QUESTION. “Constitutional amendment to dedicate assessments on wages by the state to the payment of employee benefits” I defy anyone to read through the interpretive statement and to figure out what the heck it means. My first thought was to vote NO because if I can’t understand what it means then it must be bad. I have done my home work for you and I can tell you in English (the type of English us common folk can understand) what it means.
A long time ago the government decided to set up a Social Security system where money would come out of your paycheck and be set aside in a special fund to be used only for the purpose it was intended for. Times change and that surplus pool of money was taken out and used for other purposes, which is one of the reasons you hear that the SS fund is near bankrupt. So how does this relate to the public question? Basically money is taken out of an employees paycheck and put aside in a special fund just like social security was. If you vote YES then the State can not touch that money for any purpose other than what it was set aside for. If you vote NO then the State can decide use that money for what ever they decide, just like they did with Social Security.
VOTE YES and keep the money in the employee benefit fund. Do not give the Government an opportunity to take it and use it as they please.

That’s right. The Annual infamous Alluvium Neighborhood Yard Sale is this Saturday from 8:00-2:00pm. Look for the orange balloons. (people without balloons probably did not pay to participate and are free loading. I hate to call you out but a lot of time and effort and some expense go into this event and we only ask for $5).
I’ve had great response from people on craigslist looking to come out and shop so get ready. And if you have unsold items at the end of the sale, donate them to Habitat for Humanity ReStore - receive a tax write-off for your donation and know that your items will ultimately help build affordable houses in Camden County!

Kelli form South Jersey Java is giving out FREE COFFEE with any purchase during the yard sale. Stop in and thank them for their support and get one to go.
I also want to shout out THANKS to all those neighbors who helped out with the Spring cleanup on Victor Blvd. last weekend.
